Holy Communion

At the Last Supper Jesus took bread and told his followers ‘This is my Body’ and after they had eaten
supper he took wine and said ‘this is my Blood’ and told them to do this in his memory. We do this
every time we celebrate Mass. When the priest takes the bread and wine, which are offered as
symbolic of the many gifts we receive from God, he says the words of consecration and the bread
and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ. Christ is truly present in the sacrament of the
Eucharist which is why it is treated with such great reverence.
Clergy and authorised lay ministers take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound, those living
in Care Homes and those in hospital.
Children in year 4 at school can participate in the First Holy Communion programme starting in
March and make their first confession and their first Holy Communion in June. Application forms are
distributed by our parish Primary Schools and can be downloaded below for those children not at
catholic schools. Applications for children who were baptised outside of our parish need to be
submitted with a copy of the baptism certificate. These can be obtained from the parish where the

baptism took place. If your child is not baptised, we can arrange this as part of the First Holy
Communion Programme.
